  2. Local Picture • Aim • Hodge Hill district accounts for 10% of all Birmingham’s Class A drug offences • During the last 3 financial years, 378 unique Class A drug offences • Data from the Drug Intervention Programme has also been used to try to give a more complete picture in the user profile.

  3. User Profile From the table below it can be seen that there are variations in drug type, with females accounting for 22% of Ecstasy offences but only 2% of Crack offences.

  4. Age Profile The Chart shows that the peak for males in Hodge Hill is at the age of 23, compared to females who peak later at 26. It is worth noting that the females are of very small numbers, and also the peaks at the ages of 27 and 30 for males.

  5. Ethnicity The charts show that the numbers arrested for supply of Class A drugs in Hodge Hill is predominately Asian, accounting for 72% of Supply arrests. Over 50% of Possession defendants are White, which accounts for 85% of all White arrests in Hodge Hill for Class A offences.

  6. Drug Types • Heroin is the primary drug in Hodge Hill. • The low number of Crack offences, compared to the rest of the City may change, with dealers looking for new markets.

Key Findings • Males are much more likely to be arrested for Class A offences in Hodge Hill • The average age for drug users in the district is lower than the city average. • Typical users are White males, however suppliers are most likely to be Asian males. • Heroin is the primary drug in the district and provides one of the largest areas for Heroin offences in the city. • The Washwood Heath ward is the area of the district that provides the largest volume of offences. • Roads are the most likely place for offences to be detected.

Gaps in the knowledge • Is the drugs problem the same in every constituency? • Do local partners no drugs are a problem and can treatment, reduction and partnership work in the area? • Do the Shared Care schemes work for the ward? • Are the needle exchange and Supervised consumption programs in the constituency effective and do community members now how to access them? • How make best use of these resources and what can we learn? • Are there natural points of communication for community members with regard to drugs related issues? • What should be looking for in each constituency? (It depends) • How do we as partnership senior managers best utilise the DAT and its treatment resource and contracted commissioned services? • Is there a natural point of communication for the community on seeing a drugs related issue?
