Cold War - Alliances USA USSR • NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) – 1949 (Western Military Alliance) • SEATO (South East Asia Treaty Organisation) – 1954 (to stop spread of Communism in S.E. Asia) • Baghdad Pact (CENTO) ( with anti Communist Countries i.e. Turkey, Iraq) 1955 (to contain Soviet border) • Comecon (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) 1949 (for financial reasons) • Warsaw Pact – (Eastern military Alliance) - 1955 threatening suspicion worry Fear of attack
