  2. SUBJUNCTIVE WITH CERTAINTY • Even though belief is not often seen as doubt or a mood, it is learned with the Subjunctive Mood. • Ex. Melissa believes that Juan is telling the truth. • So, if the first clause shows a fact, truth, belief etc., although it is still taught with the Subjunctive, the verb conjugations will contain NO Subjunctive. • We can call these Certainty Subjunctive sentences.

  3. SUBJUNCTIVE WITH CERTAINTY How to form a Subjunctive sentence using CERTAINTY: Subject #1 + Present Tense + que + Subject #2 + PRESENT TENSE Yocreoque Melissa dice la verdad. I believe Melissa tells the truth.

  5. SUBJUNCTIVE WITH CERTAINTY CERTAINTY using an Impersonal Expression: Impersonal Expression (using certainty) + que + Subject #2 + PRESENT TENSE Esverdadque los estudiantesestudian hoy.

  6. SUBJUNCTIVE WITH CERTAINTY • Try two examples: She believes the car is expensive. It is true that Martin does not talk to Maria!

  7. FOUR TYPES OF PRESENT SUBJUNCTIVE 1. Regular Subjunctive Subject #1 + Present Tense + que + Subject #2 + Subjunctive Mood 2. Impersonal Expression Subjunctive Impersonal Expression+ que + Subject #2 + Subjunctive Mood 3. General Subjunctive Impersonal Expression + Infinitive (no Subjunctive conjugations) 4. Certainty Subjunctive Subject #1 + Present Tense + que + Subject #2 + PRESENT TENSE (no Subjunctive conjugations)

  8. SUBJUNCTIVE WITH CERTAINTY- TAREA • Escriba en espanol. CUIDADO! All may NOT be Subjunctive. • It is scandalous to listen to the boring teacher(m) everyday! • I am sad that the test is today! • The smart women believe that men lie! • Is it surprising that we do not have our homework? • It is true that the Subjunctive test is going to be difficult! • It is necessary to study Spanish everyday in order to speak it. • Do you (inf.) believe the little boy? • We went home early yesterday because I believe the teacher is nice! (f) • It is good to wake up early on Monday! Don’t you (formal) think? • It is NOT true that this is Mary’s favorite class. • It is best to be kind to everyone! • We are proud that our homework is finished.
