  1. Evaluation Question 5 How did you attract your target audience?

  2. Attracting a target audience As a mainstream 'crowd pleaser' film, Gemini is going to have to appeal to and catch the attention of the masses. This will mean extensive advertising in a variety of fields, from TV and radio to magazines, newspapers and online. It would also need to generate a lot of publicity in the press with interviews with the stars, behind the scenes exclusives and teaser trailers. Word of mouth as always is a very important method of generating 'hype' for the film so we need to make it something people are going to want to talk about.

  3. Attracting a target audience • Our target audience covers a wide range of ages, but our main point of focus will be the 15-30 age group as the bulk of cinema-goers tend to fit this age group. • We would attract this audience in a number of different ways...

  4. Through social media • Viral campaigns on twitter and facebook, with extensive side bar advertising on the latter and an official twitter account that would tweet daily news updates, movie insights and links to interviews, reviews etc. • An official website with news, galleries, interviews etc • Heavy advertisement on video sites such as YouTube, Vimeo and 4oD.

  5. Through advertising • As with any big budget, box office dominating films – Gemini’s release will be preceded by a huge advertising campaign • This would include TV adverts aired during primetime TV shows, ads in newspapers (especially broadsheets such as The Guardian, which our target audience tends to read) and magazines (film and gaming magazines as opposed to OK and Heat) and of course thousands of billboards and posters nationwide.

  6. Through events • Anything that is going to catch the attention and imagination of the public, such as TV interviews, appearances from the stars on chat shows, pop quizzes etc • Cast attendance at awards ceremonies and premieres of other films • A highly publicised premiere with big names in attendance e.g. famous directors, other big actors • Expo’s

  7. Through media coverage/advance screenings • Advance screenings at film festivals such as Cannes and Sundance • Sneak previews at awards ceremonies such as the Oscars and Golden Globes • Teaser trailers • ‘leaked’ footage

  8. The cast • Even the cast of the film can have a hand in attracting certain audience members • By casting actors known for their previous roles in successful films of the same genre this is sure to attract the same fans • Well known and respected actors can pull in audiences who may not have seen the film otherwise

  9. A unique selling point • A catchy or quotable tagline is sure to stick long in the memory of anyone • Gemini features a pair of twins with wildly deferring personality traits portrayed by the same actor – spin this as a USP • “from the producers of Se7en” – similar films with similar tropes and conventions
