  3. NMA history… • Following World War I, the global economy changed and with it the way business was run. Businesses were led by technicians-owners-managers implementing limited business management and human relations practices. • Recognizing this, in 1919, Charles F. Kettering provided the opportunity for his foremen to become skilled, effective managers of people through their own efforts. • The Foreman's Club of Dayton, Ohio was formed in 1922. Through growth and development of new leaders, the National Association of Foremen was founded in 1925. • In 1956, a broader mission was identified, and the name was changed to NMA. • In 2015, NMA continues to be THE Leadership Development Organization creating the culture and conditions that make an employee WANT to contribute. NMA vision… • NMA is the recognized worldwide partnership of people and businesses inspiring outstanding leadership and cultivating highly productive workplaces • To utilize our unique chapter-based concept to provide a different kind of leadership development experience • To be surrounded by others who exemplify the attributes and competencies of real leaders • To provide management and leadership development opportunities to help sponsoring organizations discover, develop, and showcase leadership talent

Value of NMA … • Supporting ongoing employee development initiatives in company sponsored chapters • Providing the “experiential” opportunity to allow employees to grow • Offering Professional Development classes, seminars and webinars for members to take ownership of their own personal development • Creating a platform for individuals across a broad spectrum of businesses and industry to learn and develop leadership skills • Support company, contractor, and other training and development programs with additional cost-effective activities

NMA connections… • Employee networking and problem solving • Succession Planning and mentoring connections • The Chapter links ongoing Human Resources initiatives and organizational goals • The organization is seen in the community through service activities, especially the Leadership Speech Contest, providing leadership challenges and scholarship opportunities for high school students

  8. NMAChapters… Chapter Structure: • Membership means that you choose to participate wherever and whenever you can. There are several types of membership: Chapters in an organization; Chapters in a Community; and as an Individual Member or a Spousal Member • Each member has the opportunity to choose his or her own level of participation to practice leadership in a non-threatening environment • The chapter elects a leadership team of officers and chairs of standing committees which encourage participation and growth • The chapters are modeled after the structure of the national office to encourage continuous development and foster opportunities to take on new challenges • Access to value added professional development curriculums • Build networks both internally and externally, in each company and across business areas

NMAresults… • Opportunities for Executive Leaders to share their vision with key personnel on a regular basis • Executive leaders have a chance to observe members outside of their work environment and view their skills and talents • The organization more fully develops its bench strength and employees are prepared for new duties and responsibilities when the need arises • New employees are integrated into the organization much more quickly via NMA programs and activities
