Cardiovascular System By: Whitney Bennett microvessels
Hi, I’m Plaz. My parents named me after the liquid I travel through in the blood vessels – plasma. Today I am going to take you on a journey of my neighborhood – the cardiovascular system.
My neighborhood consists of the heart, blood vessels, and blood blood vessels heart Source: http://www.tmc.edu/thi/anatomy1.html
The Heart is the “heart” of the cardiovascular system. It is a hollow muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body. Each time it beats it pushes blood through the blood vessels which travel to other organs in the body. The atrium receives blood. The ventricle pumps blood to the blood vessels. My friends and I travel from the heart to other organs through blood vessels – arteries, capillaries, and veins. We go through the arteries to move from the heart, and travel the veins back to the heart. In the middle we visit the capillaries. These blood vessels control the process of diffusion.
My friends and I swim in plasma – together we make blood. Blood is made up of 4 components Plasma (55%), and the solids (45%) -- red blood cells, like me, white blood cells, and platelets. http://www.guidant.com/condition/heart/heart_bloodflow.shtml
The Loops of Blood Vessels In the first loop of blood vessels- The blood travels from the heart to the lungs to pick up oxygen, so you can breath. Then it flows back to the heart. In the second loop of blood vessels- The blood is pumped from the heart to places where it is needed in our body. Then it returns to the heart.
