Ciri-ciri umum;-ikan berahang-Memiliki sirip berpasangan-Lubang hidung berpasangan-Mempunyai sisik-Jantung beruang dua-Rangka tulang rawan-Memiliki endoskeleton yang terbuat dari tulang rawan-Merupakan predator utama dilaut, indera pembau lebih tajam daripada indera penglihatan-Ikan pari berbentuk pipih dorsoventral, mencari makan di laut yang dalam dan ada pemakan plankton. Alat gerak anterior berpasangan dan berkembang dari sirip pektoral-Chimera berbeda dengan ikan hiu dan pari karena tergolong ikan purba
