  2. JAA de/anti-icing Aim Today • To get support from OST for set of actions which will hopefully improve aviation safety in Europe, and leave a legacy for EASA to continue supporting once the JAA has ceased to be. • That requires NAA representatives to act as messengers and promoters.

  3. JAA de/anti-icing JAA de/anti-icing SG 8 Sep - conclusion • support agreed for a coordinated meeting of NAA experts in order to: • ascertain areas of R&D • arrange representation on industry committees • draft and agree a plan of action/common agenda • support for a winter wash-up workshop and commitment to attend and act on recommendations • agreement to help coordinate the continuation of activities with EASA

JAA de/anti-icing Need for these actions? • serious incidents still occur • problems still exist with thickened fluid residue • standards still vary • airlines unable to obtain their desired and recommended service provision • stakeholder groups working in isolation • regulation unable to address the problems • airlines fully responsible but stranded! • expert advice and R&D from NAAs varied and not coordinated

  5. JAA de/anti-icing Winter Wash-up Workshop • March 2006, Brussels? Cologne? • experts from airlines present events, incidents and experiences, to… • experts from regulators, service providers, airports and fluid manufacturers • all agree action needed during summer • all (including airlines) take away and clear actions • all provide feedback etc before winter 06/07 • establish a precedence to continue with EASA

  6. JAA de/anti-icing Winter Wash-up Workshop • each stakeholder group: • organise own representation – experts and decision-makers • prepare own agenda • coordinate actions • coordinate response • nominate “chairperson”

JAA de/anti-icing Authorities Representation: • JAA: • for now can coordinate such a venture • help to leave legacy of precedent for EASA • will need NAA and industry resources • Lead NAA(s) required • all NAAs involved – electronically • sufficient numbers of NAAs required for active involvement and attendance to support a unified European regulatory agenda/response

JAA de/anti-icing OST Support Required • for JAA de/anti-icing SG decision to support initiatives: • NAA stakeholder group • NAA representation on committees • NAA involvement in workshop NAA OST Reps Agreement Required to: • act as messengers and promoters • provide contact details of expert and decision-maker
