DIAGRAM 11 LEAD BALL-SIDE COVERAGE When the ball goes below the free-throw line extended and inside the 3 pt. Line, L has primary on-ball coverage. T focuses on the area off-ball and should extend coverage to assist with the open area on the opposite side. DIAGRAM 12 LEAD BALL-SIDE COVERAGE If the majority of players or the ball swing back to opposite, L should begin to quickly move back across the key to cover the play. If there is a quick shot or drive to the basket, L should just close down to the near free throw lane line extended and work the play. DIAGRAM 13 COVERAGE FOR THE “DELAY” OR “FOUR-CORNER” OFFENSE L • L & T are in proper position for a normal frontcourt offense. 15 22 5 12 L • When a team goes into a “four-corner” or “delay” offense, the officials must change their basic positions and move to the areas indicated. 4 14 32 T 21 3 13 • It is very important that T be behind the “delay” offense. If the corner player on that side drives to the basket, L can cut across the corner to observe the action near the basket. Officials should react quickly and properly when a team shows this kind of offense. • L must move around the corner to observe lateral movement and possible contact.

Substitutions • Only the official with the ball should beckon the substitute to enter. • The other official may relay the signal to the substitute. Before putting the ball in play the official with the ball should glance at the table to see if any substitute has reported and is ready to enter. • If the substitute has reported and is ready to enter, beckon him/her in.
