WEATHER PATTERN • Cold air from the polar regions and warmer air from the tropics cause the weather to constantly change.
CLIMATE • The average temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit • The average rainfall is about 60 inches per year.
SEASONS • All forms of life change and adapt to the seasons of deciduous forests. • Mammals come out of hibernation in the spring. • Leaves change color in the fall. • Small mammals, such as squirrels, store food in preparation for the winter season.
FIRE • Fire is utilized to clear out a large area of a forest so we can expand businesses, homes, factories, etc.
SOIL • Soil in very rich and fertile. Due to trees, leaves, etc. decaying into the soil. Giving the soil nutrients. • Some of the Greatest agricultural regions are found in this biome that’s why there are not a lot of temp. deciduous forests left in the world.
PLANT LIFE • Trees have adapted to grow large, flat, and wide leaves to absorb more sunlight for photosynthesis. • The trees make internal and physical adaptions that are triggered by changes in the climate. • In the fall season, the cold temperatures cause the trees to cut the supply to their leaves, causing them to change color and fall off.
ANIMAL LIFE Wolves, Bears, Squirrels, Deer, and Skunks and some examples of life in Deciduous Forests.
ANIMAL ADAPTAIONS • Most if not all of the animals that inhabit Deciduous Forest have adapted to hibernation during the winter season. • Others, such as birds, migrate south for the winter. • Before hibernation, squirrels store their food underneath the ground so they can have an immediate source of food when spring comes.
ENDANGERED • The loss of habitat , road construction , overhunting and degradation of water all result in to species becoming endangered.
THREATS • Air pollutants from fuels we burn are destroying forests and killing our wildlife also poising the soil. • Air pollution from factories can cause acid rain, killing the plants, effecting wild life.
