Barrel FEB Production status • All the Barrel FEBs produced and tested (5500) • The Boards classified according to the delay time in steps of 250 ps --> Time code produced • Boards with the same time code are mounted on the 6-FEB rows • Test & classification results logged into Barrel RPC production Database (www.ba.infn.it/rpc) RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Interfaces RPC-LB RPC-LB interfaces • FEB-LB • FEB -> LB: • 16 LVDS output signals • LB -> FEB: • 4 LVDS Test Input • (1 per 4 channels) • All available on the same 40-pin Scotchflex connector Distr.Board – Control Board (Slow Control) RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Loddo I.N.F.N. Bari
RPC Distr. Board-LB Control Board • The Control Board sends remote control to RPC via I2C bus • One I2C line can control up to 8 Barrel FEB or 4 Endcap FEB • Barrel: 12 (18) FEBs/Chamb. • We need: • 15 lines in sectors 4,10 • 12 lines in sectors 9,11 • 13 in the other barrel sectors • Endcap: 8 FEBs/RE2/1 • 3-4 FEBs elsewhere • We need: • 1 line for each chamber, including RE2/1 where we use I2C Mux to address 2 rows RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Loddo I.N.F.N. Bari
RPC Distr. Board-LB Control Board • The I2C bus is a local bus running at 100 kbit/s in standard mode • It consists of 2 serial lines: SCL (uni-directional) and SDA(bi-directional) • It cannot drive long lines (few meters max) because it suffers of high capacitive loads • To overcome this limitation, on the Control Board the SDA line is split into 2 uni-directional lines using the Philips component (P82B96) and SCL, SDA_IN, SDA_OUT are sent to RPC in LVDS on twisted-pair cable • On the RPC Distr. Board they are reconverted into standard I2C and sent to FEBs • This link (25 meter cable) was tested successfully during last test beam (I don’t expect problems with longer cables, due the very low transmission rate) RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Loddo I.N.F.N. Bari
RPC Distr. Board-LB Control Board • The I2C bus is used to set and read-back the Vthresholds and the Pulse widths on the FEBs • Typical I2C operations are: • Write 1, 2 or 3 bytes • Read 1 or 2 bytes • It could not be tested during 2003 test beam due to limitations in the CCU RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Loddo I.N.F.N. Bari
Conclusions • The Barrel electronics was fully produced and is under installation in the detectors • The Endcap electronics was designed and is ready for production • During the 2003 Test Beam (25ns beam) were tested successfully: • the RPC-LB connection (RPC signals and Test pattern signals) • the Control Board-Distr. Board only under the electrical point of view • More investigations are needed for I2C routines implemented in the Control Board RPC Trigger ESR Warsaw 08 July 2003 F. Loddo I.N.F.N. Bari
