  4. Art Genres Abstract art uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Cubism was one of the most influential visual art styles of the early twentieth century. It was created by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973) Fauvism was the first of the avant-garde movements that flourished in France in the early years of the twentieth century Pointillism/ˈpɔɪntɨlɪzəm/ is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of pure color are applied in patterns to form an image.

  5. My Favorite Genre • Pop Art • John McHale • John McHale (born Marryhill, Glassgow 1922, died Houston,Texas 1978) was an artist and sociologist. He was a founder member of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, and a founder of the Independent Group, which was a British movement that originated Pop Art which grew out of a fascination with American mass culture and post-WWII technologies
