  1. Monarchy and the Heraldic Symbolism The main purpose of family crest coat of arms is identification of royal families. In the UK, only the Sovereign can wear Royal arms. With crucial use in the government and administration of the country, it appears on all prominent locations such as the public buildings, coins, and churches. Goods and products associated with Royalty warrant holders also include such symbols. With an evolution spanning hundreds of years, it reflects the history related to the whole country in general and the monarchy in particular. It involves various Royal emblems from various parts of UK. These are: Three English Lions in the fourth and first quarters Scottish Lion in the second-quarter Irish harp in the third quarter A garter, bearing motto surrounds this coat of arms symbolizing an ancient Knighthood order with Queen being the sovereign. Scottish Unicorn and English Lion support the shield surmounted by Royal Crown. In 1603 separate quarters for English and the Scottish Royal Arms were developed. Scottish version shows Scottish Lions in 4th and 1st quarters. English Lion is in the 2nd quarter in this coat of arms. Irish harp remains in the 3rd quarter.
