History Inter Standard Roaming • First introduction 1996-1998: Analog inbound service to USA/Canada offered by Syniverse and Deutsche Telekom 1999: Digital services offered like: • Roaming between Argentina and Chile (initiated by TIM Italy) • Outbound roaming for Vodafone NL customers offered on BellSouth in North/South America • Working Group in GSM Association GSM Global Roaming Forum has been founded in 1999 sponsored by GSMA Goal was to stimulate Inter Standard Roaming between all major digital technologies (TDMA, CDMA and iDEN) Initiative stopped in 2002 due to low interest • CDG involvement
CDG Involvement in Inter Standard Roaming • IRT meeting Since 2004 Inter Standard Roaming has reached the agenda of the IRT meeting Ad hoc topics were put on the agenda • Main topics The main topics discussed during the IRT meetings were: • Inter Standard Roaming Agreement (CDG Doc. 127) • Inter Standard White Paper (CDG Doc. 117)
Inter Standard Roaming Agreement (Doc.127) • Goal Compose a document as a guideline for CDMA Carriers which can be used as a standard contract between a CDMA Carrier and a GSM Sponsor to initiate Inter Standard Roaming services between both parties • Status Approval pending • Archiving After final approval this document will be archived in de CDG-IRT library under document # 127.
Current Status ISR agreement • Version and last check Los Cabos meeting March 2006 (version 0.40) Changes from that meeting processed in version 0.41 Version 0.41 sent in June 2006 to all IRT members • Status No repsonse from IRT members since version 0.41 • Proposal Approval requested by this meeting Version becomes final (version 1.0)
Inter Standard White Paper (Doc.117) • Goal Compose a document as a guideline for CDMA Carriers which can be used to assess the impact of implementing Inter Standard Roaming Services. • Status Approved • Archiving After final approval this document has been archived in de CDG-IRT library under document # 117. • Comments Needs to be updated, in particular regarding different standards in CDMA450 networks in e.g. Eastern Europe (True IMSI, TAP-file, etc.)
Current Status ISR White Paper • Version and last check Las Vegas meeting December 2005 (version 2.0) • Status Approved in Las Vegas meeting (Dec 05) • Proposal Update document according to latest developments e.g.: • Include True IMSI and TAP-file exchange (e.g. Eastern European carriers) • Add Packet Data
What else? • IRT - Marketing Working Group Since 2006 the Marketing Working Group has been introduced with the goal to improve Roaming functionality and customer experience. • IRT – Packet Data Working Group During last IRT meeting in San Francisco the PDWG expressed the interest in putting Inter Standard Roaming on the agenda from 2007. • Other initiatives?
