  4. Louis Philippe • Moderates insisted on constitutional monarchy • Louis Philippe chosen • Citizen King • Got along with liberal bourgeoisie • Extended suffrage to wealthy • Many still unable to vote

  9. Napoleon III • 1848, National Assembly issued new constitution for Second Republic • President • One-house legislature • All men one vote • Overwhelming vote for Louis Napoleon, Napoleon’s nephew • Named himself emperor Napoleon III in 1852
