Daily Schedule • 7:45 Arrival/breakfast • 7:55 Announcements • 8:00 Classes begin • 2:25 Dismissal (Except Thursdays) • General daily schedule for each grade will be provided at the grade level meetings. • Check with the classroom teacher for more specific details
Professional Development - Thursday • Student dismissal at 1:25 PM every Thursday • Beginning on Thursday, September 8th • Lunch schedule remains the same • Teachers engaged in professional development activities
Instructional Time - Interruptions • To maximize the benefits of instructional time: • Calls to teachers will be sent directly to voicemail • Teachers will not conference with parents during instructional time • Conferences must be scheduled during non-instructional time • Visits to the classroom must be arranged ahead of time • Items brought for students will be delivered by school personnel during non-instructional times
Attendance • Students must be ready to begin class at 8:00 each day. • Children arriving late will need to stop at the office for a Tardy Slip • Parents must call to report their child’s absence or it will be marked as unexcused • Notes explaining absence should be given to the classroom teacher • School nurse should be made aware of any chronic medical concerns • State law requires schools to report any child with 10 unexcused absences • Review pages 5-6 of the Elementary Handbook
Student Behavior • School Plan: Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) • Miller Matrix that explains behavioral expectations posted in every classroom • Students receive training in the early fall and again in January • Continual reinforcement of behavioral expectations • Miller Millions distributed to students behaving appropriately • Miller Millions used to purchase items, participate in special activities, etc. • Supports for students experiencing behavioral problems • Review pages 6-11 of the Elementary Handbook
Dress Code • Clothing cannot create a distraction • Logos/pictures promoting violence, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, vulgarities, etc. are not permitted • Skirts and shorts must be below fingertip in length • Clothes must not be see-through, expose midriff or expose underwear • Pants must fit at the waist
Homework • Assigned to provide additional practice or expand upon skills introduced in the classroom • Research indicates it leads to higher student achievement at all ability levels • Student more confident and better prepared for new skills • Assignment Notebooks or Purple Homework Folders purchased by Miller PTO for every student • Parents should check these every night for notes, homework, etc. • Plan to read with your child 15 minutes every day
Transportation • Buses only use the front circle • Parents dropping-off students use Entrance P • Parents picking-up students use Entrance Q • Changes in transportation should be received by the office before 2:00 PM • Students left after 2:40 will be sent to the Extended Care and parents will be charged • Bus Questions: Call Transportation Department at 650-5311
RDS Online Parent Access • Personalized collection of student data (grades, attendance, fees, test scores, discipline, etc.) • At your fingertips at anytime of the day • Obtain activation number used to create an account from the office • Assistance will be provided in the office or computer lab for parents without Internet access or those experiencing difficulties
