Pompey’s wives… • AemiliaIn 82 B.C., Sulla persuaded Pompey to divorce Antistia in order to remarry his stepdaughter, Aemilia. At the time, Aemilia was pregnant by her husband, M. Acilius Glabrio. She didn’t want to marry Pompey, but did so, anyway, and soon died in childbirth.

story Pompey the Great • Caesar decided that Pompey needed to get kicked out of his position of power, and Pompey thought the same of Caesar. Crassus, who had been watching their struggle, ready to take on the winner himself, had been killed in Parthia so they didn’t have to worry about him. • It was only recently that Pompey had come to fear Caesar. Up until this time he had only despised him. It was through his own influence, he thought, that Caesar had grown great, and it would be just as easy to put him down as it had been to raise him up.
