  2. Wednesday 1/20/10: Complex Sentences • We have covered subjects and clauses in the last couple of DGWU’s. Now it is time to move to something more complex! • Turn to page 145 for review! • Complete exercise 3, #’s 1-5.

  3. Thursday 1/21/10: Compound Sentences • Turn to page 142 to brush on the compound sentence. • Now practice with Exercise 2 on page 144. Finish #’s 1-5. • How did you do?

  4. Tuesday 1/26/10: Compound-Complex • We have now gone over both the complex and the compound sentence. • It is time to combine that info into the last of our sentence structures.  • Turn to page 147 for the definition and examples. • Complete: Exercise 4, page 148 #’s 1-5

  5. Wednesday 1/27/10: Sentence Structure • Yes you are finally ready for me to stop talking about sentence structure! (at least for a little while) • Please remember to identify the subjects and the verbs of each clause before you start GUESSING answers. There is no reason that you need to be guessing anything! • Turn to page 149 and complete Review A, #’s 1-10. You do not need to write the complete sentence.

Thursday 1/28/10: Dangling Modifiers • Today we are going to address standard 39. • A modifier is a word or group of words that makes the meaning of another word more specific. • When a sentence contains a misplaced or dangling modifier the meaning of the sentence changes. • Example: Last night, I shot an elephant in my pajamas. • Turn to page 237 and correct sentences 16-20.

  7. Tuesday 2/2/10: Participles • How did you do with question 38? • Each month question 38 deals with infinitives and participles. • Before you can answer that question correctly it is important that you know what infinitives and participles are. • We are going to start with the participle. Turn to page 101 for the definition. • Complete #’s 1-5 of Exercise 4 on page 102,
