  8. Course Content: I: Safety in the Laboratory 2:Earth’s Ecosystems (Biomes and Ecosystems, Energy Flow and Nutrient Cycles.)

  9. 3:Chemical Reactions and Radioactivity Atomic Theory and Bonding, Compound Names and Formulas, Chemical Equations, Acids, Bases and Salts, Chemical Reactions, Radioactivity

  10. 4:Motion Velocity and Acceleration)

  11. 5: Plate Tectonics

  12. Assessment and Evaluation Tests and Quizzes 60% Class Work, Labs, Homework 40% This will make up 80% of your final mark. The Provincial Exam will make up 20% of your final mark.

  13. Expectations: • Students will come prepared to class (text, binder, paper, pen, pencil, eraser, scientific calculator) • Students will use class time wisely (i.e. stay focused and work) • Students can expect 15- 30 min of homework for each Science Class! • This is a serious course I expect you to demonstrate mature behaviour including a respectfor; each other, me and any organism in this course. If you have a problem in this class, come and talk to me outside of class time to work it out. • This is a laboratory based course and safety cannot be compromised. If you cannot be safe you will not be allowed to put others at risk.

  14. Attendance: There is no substitute for being in class. Missed class work may be completed the following day. Missed exams must be done on your return. Skip = 0. Extended absences will require negotiation with me. Use the buddy system. Have a friend collect materials and assignments when you are absent. Buddy’s Phone #: Unexcused absences: phone home, refer you to the office

  15. No Food in the Lab: you are allowed to bring water-bottles into class but no food or gum. No Cheating: evidence of cheating or copying will result in a zero score for all individuals involved. Additionally, your parents will be called and documentation of cheating will go onto your student record making you ineligible for future scholarships and awards. Copying homework is considered to be cheating!
