Physical Science • Covers the basics of Physics and Chemistry • High school level class: Grade goes on transcript • 8th graders are responsible for Science SSA (previously known as FCAT) in April: Covers 6th and 7th and 8th grade material. • 7th graders won’t take Science FCAT (even when they get to 8th grade) • Next year’s class: Biology. Will have an EOC exam.

  3. What’s next: • Biology ( usually 10th), • Chemistry (usually 11th), • science requirement is met • may choose a science class as elective(s) depending on the high school

  4. Class Info • Combination of book, worksheets, activities, labs, videos, quizzes, tests. • About 15-20 minutes of homework per night – longer assignments given more time • Can turn in late assignments with a HW pass • HW pass does NOT excuse from doing work • “Z” means not turned in, “X” means excused from assignment • Tutoring sessions and make-ups on Fridays 8:30-9 am

  5. Grading and Tests • Classwork/HW • Each classwork usually worth 1-2 grades • Each HW is worth 1-2 grades • Tests & Quizzes • Test or quiz every Thursday • Chapter test (if chapter is completed) or Vocabulary quiz • Always announced (no pop-quizzes) • Quizzes usually worth 1-2 grades • Tests worth 1 grade per lesson

  6. Vocabulary • One of the methods used to review for SSA test in April • Covers material learned in 6th and 7th grade • Received list (for the entire year) and glossary • Can be printed from website if needed • 10-16 words per group • One index card per word: • Front: word and definition from glossary provided • Back: Either draw picture, use in a sentence or rewrite definition • Quizzes always announced: always Thursdays – when we are not ready to test a chapter

  8. REMIND 101 • Receive reminder messages from me by text. • Students and parents encouraged to sign up. • Send text to 81010 • @physcisio

  9. How to earn a HW pass • Does not excuse from work, only gives an extra day or two to complete • Earn A+ on test (all correct answers PLUS extra credit question) • Member of winning team during review game (kahoot) • Attend school show or sporting event (as participant or audience) • 10 box tops • Donations to class: paper, pencils, pens, paper towels, liquid soap, box of tissues, anything else the class can use • At end of quarter: may convert 4 unused HW passes into extra-credit grade (max 2 of 4 from donations)
