Student Goals • Read “The Storyteller” to understand omniscient narrator anddetermine the writer’s purpose or intent as a strategy for comprehension.
QuickWrite List several of your favorite stories or books from when you were younger. Why did they capture your interest? Write a paragraph explaining why these stories appealed to you. The title of the story is “The Story Teller.” Using the painting and the writing we just did, make a prediction about the subject of this story. Support your prediction with logical details from the painting and sound reasoning. What Do You Think? How can stories influence behavior or situations?

Exit Ticket • Since satire is supposed to be funny—it is poking fun at human foibles—what has the author done in “The Story Teller” that you find funny? • Be specific.
