Engaging Youth in Health Literacy: WHAM Club Movement

The WHAM Club, with support from professionals, aims to address health literacy among youth. Through a process of investigation and redesign, young people will redefine what health means to them. This project is supported by NASBHC and offers training and resources to student groups.

The Project • National Assembly on School Based Health Care (NASBHC) put out a call for student groups to apply for this project • Selection for Project • Letter of interest • Group interview/critique of health materials • Process • Initial 3-hour web-based Training (June 8th) • 4 weeks for Investigation • Follow-up 3-hour in-person training (July 7th)

  5. the problem Lots of health information and health services are aimed at young people but few are actually designed with young people.

  6. the real story The National Assembly on School Based Health Care was set-up to ‘improve the health status of children and youth by advancing and advocating for school-based health care.’ But, what is health? What is good school-based health care? These are questions that have not yet been asked of or answered by young people. Adult assumptions and interpretations prevail.

  7. why we need you To look at things differently. To generate ideas for what could be different.
