  3. E.E.C.B.G. Grants • Grants assisted many Governmental entities • Designed to: • Reduce Fossil Fuel Emissions • Reduce Energy Use • Improve Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Transportation • Create and Retain Jobs

  4. Bartow’s Five Grant Projects #1- Conservation and Climate Control Strategy #2- Commercial and Industrial Audits #3- LED Streetlight Retrofit Project #4- Energy Efficient Retrofits of City Buildings #5- Solar Demonstration Project

  5. #1- Conservation and Climate Control Strategy • Cities play a central role in tackling climate change • Establish a baseline of our Bartow’s carbon footprint, and: • Target cost effective opportunities to improve energy efficiency • Identify specific actions to reduce Greenhouse Gasses (GHG) • Identify the costs, benefits, and efficiency of each GHG reduction measure • Determine how to build on existing City programs • Many more…

  6. #2- Commercial and Industrial Audits • Buildings use a lot of energy, and reducing consumption helps the environment • Energy audits offered to commercial and industrial customers • Focus – Heating, cooling, lighting and industrial process • Industrial retrofit costs: $710,126. Savings were $152,229. Payback: 4.7 years • Commercial retrofit costs: $1,486,435. Savings were $371,460. Payback: 4 years • Each audit recipient was given a roadmap to energy efficiency, but no obligations to make the recommended changes

  8. #3- LED Streetlight Retrofit Project • Replaced 100 HPS fixtures with LED fixtures • Results so far: • Reduction of Greenhouse Gasses by approx. 9 tons per 100 fixtures annually, (360 tons for all 4,000 fixtures in the city) • Energy savings of approx. $1,000 per 100 fixtures annually, ($40,000 for all 4,000 city fixtures)

  9. #4- Energy Efficient Retrofits of City Buildings • Energy audits for 12 city owned buildings • Buildings retrofited with: • Energy efficient lights • Energy efficient heating and A/C systems • Energy efficient windows • Retrofitting the building “envelope” • Annual combined energy savings are estimated at $200,000

  10. #4- Energy Efficient Retrofits of City Buildings City Buildings audited: 1.       Fire Department 2.       Police Department 3.       City Hall 4.       Civic Center 5.       Water 6.       Waste Water 7.       Carver Recreation 8.       Polk Street Community Center 9.       Golf Course Club House 10.   Bartow Public Library 11.   Electric Department 12.   IT Department

  11. #5- Solar DemonstrationProject • 5.39 kW Photovoltaic system installed at the Bartow Public Library • Similar in size to a residential unit (22 roof panels) • Purpose: Educate the public, save energy • Monitor in the Library lobby that shows real-time energy output • Handouts are available to the public, and a mail out flyer was sent out • 72 City employees were educated to communicate to public • Produces 10,000-12,000 kW hours annually ($1,200 - $1,500 savings)
