Practice Activity • show students the graphic organizer • brainstorm topics together as a class • choose a shared topic (ex. school lunch, recess) • fill in graphic organizer
Assessment • Allow students to choose their own topic, and fill out the graphic organizer on their own • Did the student complete all parts of the graphic organizer? • Was the information provided relevant to the five senses and the topic?

Drafting • Five-Senses Poetry • usually five to six lines long • one line for each sense • may include color as an additional line • Drafting • put ideas from graphic organizer into complete sentences
Practice Activity • use topic chosen for prewriting to create draft • write poem as a class • put ideas into complete sentences in the correct form
Assessment • Students will draft a five-senses poem on their own, using their graphic organizer • Did the student use all five senses in his/her poem? • Did the student put each of the five senses into separate lines?
