What is a Digital Kid? • Raising Kids in Our Digital World • Media and technology are evolving at a dizzying pace, bringing opportunities and challenges that are new to this generation. • Many of you probably embrace the creative and educational potential of the new media reality but are also concerned about the amount of time that your kids spend with media and how it may impact how they make decisions, learn, and socialize. • This presentation will give you an overview of today's new media landscape, the impact that it has on kids (both the positives and unintended negative consequences), and, most importantly, how you can help kids be safe, smart, and responsible online.

Content Pushes boundaries Suggestive Since the Internet makes accessing all kinds of content even easier, it's a daunting task for teachers and parents to rein in the media that their kids consume.
Digital Footprints This basically means that the information, photos, videos, etc. that you post – or that others post about – you don't ever go away. This happens in part because something can be cut and pasted without your knowledge and in part because it's becoming easier and easier to search content online – you have to assume that once something is out there, it's there for good.
Anonymity • The online audience is invisible. • Kids don't always know who's on the other end of a conversation or who's leaving comments on something they've posted. • Kids can be anonymous themselves, which can make them feel free to do or say things they wouldn't in person.
