Polite commands • Polite or formal commands are used when there is a formal or professional relationship between people. • As noted yesterday, Mrs. Worley uses formal commands with her students. • Ex: Escriban, escuchen • Notice how these verbs are not in their third person form the way informal commands are.

  3. How to form polite commandsIt’s a bit more complicated, so take notes. AR verbs Practice writing the commands in the forms indicated (Uds.) Listen (Ud.) Talk Spanish (Uds.) Close your books • Start with the yo form of the present tense. • Then drop the -o ending. • Finally, add the following endings: • -ar verbs:-e (for Ud.), -en (for Uds.) • Notice that the endings are er/ir third person singular and plural endings.

  9. Assignment • Most of you are rising seniors and you’re worried that the underclassmen are a bit unfocused. • Give the underclassmen advice so they are as successful as you are. Give four affirmative and four negative commands in the third person plural form. • Illustrate your sentences, color, and turn in.

  10. Assignment • You are the boss of a major corporation (you may choose the type of company). Your employees are not doing their job to your standards. Write a list of 5 commands so they can do their job correctly. • Be sure to state what you do for a living as a brief introduction to the list. Draw pictures, color, turn in. • Do worksheet when you are through or for HW.

  11. Ejemplo: • Soy maestra y ustedes son mis estudiantes. Para sacar una buena nota, tienen que seguir estas instrucciones. • 1. Hagan su tarea todos los días. • 2. Estudien sus apuntes (notes). • 3. Hablen español afuera de la clase. • 4. Escuchen a la maestra.
