TE Basics • Federal funds for transportation-related projects • Source of funds -- 10% of STP allocation • Reimbursement -- not grants !! • Requires matching funds -- 10.27%
Projects are meant to: • Strengthen the cultural, aesthetic, or environmental aspects of the trans. system • Enrich the experience of those using the transportation system • Go beyond what is routine or required on transportation projects
Eligibility • Fits an approved TE Activity • Has clear relation to surface transportation also… • Is over and above what is routine or required on transportation projects
Twelve TE Activities • Facilities for Pedestrians and Bicyclists • Safety and Educational Activities for Pedestrians and Bicyclists • Acquisition of Scenic Easements and Scenic or Historic Sites(including historic battlefields) • Scenic or Historic Highway Programs(including tourist and welcome center facilities)

Selection and Approval • Reduce to ~30 finalists • TE Advisory Committee scores and selects • FHWA and ODOT Director review • Oregon Transportation Commission approval
After Selection • Notification and acceptance • Assign to program year (STIP) • Scoping, prospectus, agreement • Hire consultant and begin
