Introduction • One of the most brilliant individuals in history, Napoleon Bonaparte was a masterful soldier, an unequalled grand tactician and a great administrator. He was a ruthless dictator who believed he could do no wrong.
Origin • He was not a Frenchman by birth . Born on the 15th August 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica, and was the illegitimate son of Carlo Bonaparte and LetiziaRamolino and was born as a Roman Catholic.
Education • He learnt French at the school of Autun and later attended the military academy at Brienne-le-chateau, but he never fully mastered French. On completion of his studies at Brienne in 1784, Napoleon was admitted to ÉcoleMilitaire in Paris and that was the end of his naval ambition. Instead, he trained to become an artillery officer and when his father's death reduced his income, was forced to complete the two-year course in one year. He was the first Corsican to graduate from the EcoleMilitaire.
Early Career • Upon graduating in September 1785, Bonaparte was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in La Fère artillery regiment.[7][note 4] He served on garrison duty in Valence, Drôme and Auxonne until after the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, though he took nearly two years' leave in Corsica and Paris during this period. He spent the early years of the Revolution in Corsica, fighting in a complex three-way struggle between royalists, revolutionaries, and Corsican nationalists. He supported the revolutionary Jacobin faction, gained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and command over a battalion of volunteers
Early Career (Cont) • After he had exceeded his leave of absence and led a riot against a French army in Corsica, he was somehow able to convince military authorities in Paris to promote him to captain in July 1792.He continued his early years with the Siege of Toulon, Vendemiaire, the first Italian Campaign and his Egyptian expedition.
Veni, Vidi, Vici • After his rise to power in France he and his armies began to conquer and the French empire was growing at a rapid rate.
End of His Career • Because of his Dictatorship and continuous ambition for “world domination” and from as far back in history to the present extremely powerful men have always been hated or targets, he was no different. He was arrested and exiled to the island of Saint Helena in the Atlantic ocean as far as 2000 km from any major landmass. Even though he had many that hated him they were equaled by people that loved him and many attempts were made to help him escapes Saint Helena.
Death • In February 1821, his health began to rapidly decline, and died on May 5 later, his cause of death was stomach cancer but skeptics speculated that he was poisoned but it was later disproved. His final words according to history were: "France, armée, têted'armée, Joséphine. • Which means France,army, head of army , Josephine.
