  1. Using Contribute How to make changes to the 2013-2014 Catalog Narrative

  2. The Basics • Contribute allows you to make changes directly to the online Catalog Narrative. No more marking up hard copies, no more second round! • On December 3, the pages will be “turned off,” and no more edits will be allowed. • At that point, Hope McPherson in University Communications will review for typos and consistency, and make any necessary changes.

  3. Setting up a connection CIS has step-by-step instructions on the following page for setting up your Contribute connection. This slideshow just gives you the details you need to fill into their framework. Be sure to follow the pre-production directions! • http://www.spu.edu/cishelpdesk/web/department/contribute/index.asp

  4. Setting up a connection The URLs for the catalogs (step 3) are: • Undergraduate: http://web-preprod.spu.edu/acad/UGCatalog/20134/ • Graduate: http://web-preprod.spu.edu/acad/GRCatalog/20134/

  5. Editing a page When you’re on a page you wish to edit, click “Edit Page.” You’ll then be able to make whatever changes you need. When done, simply click “Publish.”

  6. Creating a link, part 1 If you wish to make a word act as a link: • Highlight the word • Right click • Select “Insert Link”

  7. Creating a link, part 2 • Browse to or type in a web page URL or • Enter an email address or • Select “File on my computer” for PDFs If you want the link to open in a new window, indicate so in “Advanced”

  8. Removing a link If you wish to remove a link: • Highlight the link • Right click • Select “Remove Link”

  9. Notes about Contribute • Within the page editor, the only links we use are Publish, Save for Later, and Discard Draft. • We do not use Send for Review • The interface is similar to Word. Very user-friendly! • Hit Refresh to view changes you’ve just made. • The Discard Draft button is your friend. If you’ve made a mistake you can’t easily fix, simply don’t save your changes.

  10. Degree Requirements • Changes to degree requirements can not be made in Contribute. Those are made in Banner, by Tiffany and Lee. • If you have changes to these lists, please write them in a brightly colored pen on the pages we printed for you. If you have no changes, note that, too. Submit to Tiffany Shelton (UG) or Lee Staman (GR/DR), Suite 113, by December 3.

  11. Contribute Tips • Keep a browser window (e.g. Internet Explorer) open while you’re editing, to see what it looks like. • Take the Quick Tour and Contribute Tutorial. (Links on the program’s start page.) These will really help familiarize you with the program!

  12. Don’ts! • The left navigation bar is off-limits; you will not be able to change it. If you have changes for this section, contact Ruth Adams (radams@spu.edu). • Fonts, font sizes & styles, and color are controlled by a style guide. Do not change these things. If you do, it will be changed back!

  13. Notes • The pre-production Catalogs can only be viewed from on-campus. • Contribute is used for making edits, but you can view the Catalogs through any web browser. • To access your suggested course sequences, first visit the degree requirements page. Then click the course sequence link, and then “Edit Page.”

  14. The long and short • Contribute is here to make the process easier, not to complicate things. If you’re having troubles, we’re happy to help! • The changes you make are in “pre-production.” The pages you’re working on are only available to a select few. If you’re nervous about making changes, fear not! Yours is not the last set of eyes to check your work. • Contribute is only accessible on-campus!
