  5. IMPORTANT NOTICE • The timings of the Open Meeting will change in September. • Coffee and tea will be available from 10:00 at the far end of the hall. • Registration will take place in the hall and not in the church. The colour-coded membership cards will be required for this process. • Group tables will be placed between the registration tables and the refreshment tables. • Access to the church will be available from 10:15 only. • Notices will begin at 10:30. • The Speaker will begin at 10.50 or 11.00 and the meeting will close at 12:00 at the latest.

  6. Timing Changes in September: Please note that the Speaker will finish by 11:45. If it is not convenient to stay for the talk please leave immediately after the notices. You will not be expected to sign out. Out of respect to the Speaker it would be courteous if you could remain for the full talk. It has been noticed that many people have had to leave whilst the talk is in progress – it is hoped that the new timings will make this unnecessary.

  15. VOLUNTEERS No group runs without people to run them. DEVICES: Jim Turner is looking for 2/3 people who are familiar with iPhones or iPads or Kindles and are prepared to run one or more question/answer sessions. GARDENING: It is suggested that a team of 3 or 4 people organise a group along the lines of Gardeners’ Question Time.

  16. VOLUNTEERS CONTINUED: SCIENCE: Volunteers needed who would be prepared to give a talk on some aspect of science which is of interest to them. Jim would organise a programme around these sessions. PERFORMING ARTS: will be organised shortly.

  17. NO GROUP CAN RUN WITHOUT PEOPLE TO RUN THEM! Please do not be shy. If you think you can help run or contribute to these possible new groups then contact Jim Turner on: jm.jj.turner@ntlworld.com

  18. NEW COMMITTEE POSITIONS Our U3A continues to prosper and, judging by the growing membership, seems to fill a void in Beeston and surrounding areas. The committee is anxious to build on the success of Beeston U3A and would like to co-opt two new committee members who will have specific responsibilities.

  19. Position 1 - Publicity and Marketing We would like to find someone with the skills to communicate with local media – including links to national U3A publications - and to be able to publicise Beeston U3A within our area.

  20. Position 2 – Fund Raising We are looking for someone with experience in writing applications for grants and donations – or who is prepared to gain that experience. The skills required for this include attention to detail and perseverance. Any money raised would be used, initially, to post our quarterly newspaper to all of our members.

  21. Do you have any of these skills? Would you like to take up the challenge within our organisation? Would you like to join a friendly group of people on the committee? If “yes” is the answer to any of these questions then please contact Liz Barnes either today or at lizbarnes38@yahoo.co to discuss further details.

  22. DEMENTIA FRIENDS Dementia Friends is a recently launched initiative in recognition of the growing number of people suffering from Dementia. Joan Gavigan is a member of our U3A and is a Champion for this important move forward. If any of you are interested in learning more and perhaps attending an information session please contact Joan directly on – 0115 8753850 or email joangavigan@ntlworld.com

  23. Thinks? Have you changed your e-mail address recently? Have you let people know? If you can think of anyone at Beeston U3A who needs to have this information (Group Leaders, Committee members) then please contact them. We rely on up-to-date communication.

  24. September’s Speaker The speaker for September 5th is: Jane Barnes – The Life of a Farmer’s Wife Plus cheese tasting.

  25. Finally: we all enjoy our tea and coffee thanks to Sheila Strang and her willing teams of helpers. However, please avoid bringing cups of tea and coffee into the main church itself. Thank you.
