Clothing: • Simple skirts called breechcloths made from animal furs (usually buffalo or rabbit) • Leather leggings • Buckskin dresses • Bird Feathers for headdresses • Mukluk boots and moccasins. • Housing: • Longhouses for entire families made of wood • Wigwams made of pole framework and covered in dirt and leaves or bark • Teepees made of buffalo skin • Food: • Grew Corn, beans, squash • Collected Berries • Collected Nuts • Hunted Meat such as deer and buffalo Native Americans life: Mother Willow teaches John Smith about their way of life so he can win Pocahontas’ heart and her families approval. • Recreation: • Pottery • Wove baskets and blankets/rugs • Painted using colorful berry juice • Sang and played rattles, drums, flutes and whistles • Lacrosse • Family: • Lived in tribes that share the same area, beliefs, religion, language. • Elder respect was greatly emphasized because of their knowledge/experience. • Elders pass down knowledge to young • Beliefs: • Spirits in nature influenced their lives • Held ceremonies to help them get enough food. • Rain dances during droughts
