University of California College System • Guaranteed admission to top 4% of class • • Admits the top 8% of California Seniors • • Requires ACT with the Writing or the SAT Reasoning test • • Requires two SAT Subject tests in two different areas • • Application filing period is Nov. 1-30 • • UC application available online starting October 1 but DONOT send until Nov. 1- Nov. 30 • • $60.00 for each application (based on 2007-2008 fees) • • Requires personal statement • • Requires A-G pattern of coursework with a C grade or above • • Check the Eligibility Index online for required GPA and • • ACT/SAT scores • • The more competitive the school the more college prep • coursework they want you to take • • Visit schools before you make your final decision • • Make sure the school offers your major!!! • Find all this information in detail on the website: • www.ucop.edu/pathways

Vocational, Technical and Career Colleges • Check out the Eureka System in the Career Center • Go to the specific website to check admission requirements • Students enroll in courses for one or two years to learn the skills needed for a specific career • On average, tuition at a vocational school is less expensive than a four-year school, but more expensive than a community college. • Vocational schools may be eligible for federal aid • Many private vocational schools are accredited in California Find all this information in detail on the website: www.search4careercolleges.com

California Community College System • Must have a high school diploma or be 18 years of age to enroll • Must take a placement exam for English and Math • Tuition at community college is less expensive than four-year colleges • Course schedules are flexible, with day and evening classes offered to working students • Credits earned can usually be transferred to a four-year college • Offers two types of programs: • (1) Transfer Program to a 4-year school • (2) Trade/Technical Program to obtain a certificate of training in specialty areas such as drafting • Find additional information about California Community Colleges by visiting • www.cccco.edu or www.rccd.cc.ca.us (RCC) • Be sure to investigate the university transfer program and/or occupational educational program before applying. • Most community colleges accept applications starting in April • Most community colleges also require an on-line application.
