Explore how America's changing demographics provide NASA with an opportunity to engage a new, multicultural audience and ignite a passion for space exploration. Learn strategies to connect with diverse populations effectively and inspire the next generation of explorers.
E N D
Why • America is becoming a more multicultural, multiethnic diverse nation • We must respond to the changing demographics • Opportunity for NASA to build a new constituency and truly inspire the next generation of explorers
How / Six Keys • Think differently about the population and develop strategies to communicate with them at the grassroots level • Consider issues from the perspective of a population that is younger than the U.S. average age and has intense family interests • Recognize that virtually every survey of minority communities broadly defines the most important issues as Equal Opportunity, Education, and Jobs. In the case of Hispanics, immigration would be added to the list.
How / Six Keys Continued • Don’t be afraid to communicate in relevant and effective ways. For example, minority communities tend to like more personal pieces. • Start early in communicating with the population. The most effective strategies show long-term consistency of message • Also, in the case of Hispanics, Spanish-language outlets are very important
