Presentation to DAU Functional Integrated Product Team Michael Drillings, Ph.D. Acting Director for MANPRINT Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1 (703) 695-6761 michael.drillings@hqda.army.mil 30 May 2003
New Development • Human Systems Integration (HSI) has received significant emphasis as a result of the new DoD 5000 Policy • Enclosure 7 devoted to HSI • Also supported in CJSI 3170 series
DAU History • Elective in Human Systems Integration used at DAU- Belvoir between 1992 and 1995. • 2 hour block
Recommendations • 3 recommendations for HSI exposure at DAU
Recommendation 1 • Hybrid Log 201 “A” Module Sub-course has a small section on Human Systems Integration in Ch. 11, Support Strategy. • We would rewrite that section to bring it up to date
Recommendation 2 • Hybrid Log 201 “B” Module Sub-course has lost Human Systems Integration. insert a 15 minute presentation. • We would write the course material • We would have on-site visits to DAU, Belvoir Campus, to assist in tuning the presentation
Recommendation 3 • Two hour elective. Two 45-50 minute blocks. • with LOG 201, Acquisition Management courses, and possibly an optimum application to the PM’s “In Route Course.” • tuned to the O-4/5/6 and GS-13/14/15 level • based on the successful Human Systems Integration elective used at DAU- Belvoir between 1992 and 1995. • First 45 minute session is lecture format. Second 45 minutes session is a case study presented by the instructor with student discussion at critical points. We used Comanche and Armored Gun System with associated videos and training aids in the original elective.
Resource Requirements • Recommendation 1: 5 hours of gov’t staff (us) work for an update of the text. This includes staffing the text with Navy and USAF. • Recommendation 2: 10-15 hours. Again- probably done in-house. • Recommendation 3: 100 hours, to be contracted out. MTC has priced that work, with deliverable materials at about $95K. (Navy $?)
Timetable • Fall 2003: Recommendations 1 & 2 implemented • Winter 2004: Recommendation 3 implemented
