MedStar Ambulatory Care ServicesCapital Hill – Primary Care Practice and Urgent Care Center
MedStar Health • $4 billion not-for-profit regional healthcare system • 10 hospitals and a comprehensive network of outpatient centers and physician offices serving Maryland and Washington D.C. • 27,000 associates • 5,600 physicians • 163,000 inpatient admissions • 3.6 million outpatient visits Our Vision: To be the trusted leader in caring for people and advancing health.
Why D.C. • The population that we envision serving downtown is over 428,000 people, including 166,000 residents and an additional 262,000 commuters. • Last year, 39,000 people moved into the D.C. metropolitan area and another 66,000 are expected thru 2014. D.C. is the third highest national growth area behind Dallas and Houston. • Currently, there is a need for access to Primary Care in the market. We estimate a shortage of up to 40 Primary Care Physicians to cover the need in the downtown D.C. area. • D.C. has a strong employer base which continues to intensify in the Downtown area. The unemployment rate is at approximately 5.4% and, since 2000, D.C. has been the second largest job producing market in country behind Houston. • A portion of population turns over every two-to-four years, resulting in a number of people in the population who are in need of developing new physician relationships.
Why MedStar • MedStar already serves the downtown market through our six different locations. Over15 of our physicians had 35,000 patient visits last year. In addition, over 4,000 patients had ambulatory surgery procedures performed by a MedStar physician. • MedStar has a significant investment into the community through its hospitals. MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital have served the community for over 100 years. • MedStar hospitals are the largest provider of care in the D.C. market, providing over to 30% of the inpatient healthcare in the market. • MedStar’s clinical programs at Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospitals are nationally recognized as centers of excellence in many services including the care of cardiovascular disease, neurologic illness and injury, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, orthopedics and women's services. • The MedStar Physician Practice Network has 18 primary care physicians practicing in the D.C. market. Twelve of these physicians are in the downtown area. • MedStar is one of the largest employers in the community with close to 13,000 associates, including 1,000 physicians.
