What are your strengths and weaknesses in creating them? • Why do clowns wear loud socks? • Lip flap – when a person on television can be seen talking but not heard. Goals – Work on intro paragraphs. Focus on how to write transition, thesis and map. Homework – Complete an introduction paragraph by class tomorrow. Save it as D1 and print it for points tomorrow. Don’t forget to study for vocabulary test # 22.
English 10 - 2/25/14 • Why would you recommend this book to another person. What would they get out of it? • Why did the clown go to the doctor? • Hammocking – putting a new television show between two established hits. Goals – Focus on writing skills that will be evaluated in the assignment sheet. Focus on body paragraphs. Add to D1 and save as D2. Homework – Complete at least three body paragraphs according to the assignment sheet. I will be checking for points tomorrow.
English 10 - 2/26/14 • Free write about anything related to To Kill a Mockingbird. • Why do bees hum? • Drooling – unrehearsed talking to fill in allotted radio or TV program time. Sometimes called “yata-yata-yata.” Goals – Discuss issues with the essay thus far. Understand and apply the structure for the closing paragraph. Homework – Complete D3 that is the first version of a complete essay. Print and bring to class tomorrow for points.
English 10 - 2/27/14 • What do you think is the most important aspect of being a good human being? • What do you call a pig that knows Karate? • Claque – hired applauders. Those who show approval for a fee or self-interest. Goals – Focus on layering. Practice appositives and absolutes insert into essay. Practice transitions – key word repetition and transition words. Homework – New Draft with absolutes, appositives and both types of transitions indicated.
English 10 - 2/28/14 • Five minutes to study for Vocabulary #22. • Why did the girl drink seven cans of pop? • Captation – An attempt to attain applause or recognition. Goals – Successfully complete Vocabulary #22. Checking you work and making final revisions. Teacher and peer comments. Homework – Final draft and D1,D2,D3,D4 due at the beginning of class on Monday.
