2. Registration So Far… During sessions #1 and #2, you should have selected your English and social courses for next year.

3. You Can Earn College Credits While Attending High School!

4. By taking Articulated College Credit (Tech Prep) courses, students can earn high school credits as well as college credits ACC (Tech Prep) Courses offered at CIHS are listed on page five of the registration guide For additional information, you may meet with the Career Center staff

5. CIHS Articulated College Credit Trivia!! How does my post-secondary school know that I have earned Articulated College Credits in high school?

6. Your Articulated College Credit (Tech Prep) certificate(s) you earn. Keep the certificate(s) in a safe place until you are ready to register for college Bring the certificate to one of the colleges listed on pg 5 and enroll in a career program or major

7. Certain tests may help with yourpreparation for college? • ACT – Should be taken no later than spring of 11th grade year. The ACT will be given at CIHS on April 12th;apply online www.actstudent.org/start by March 7th • PSAT – Is usually taken the fall of the 11th grade year. Practice test for the SAT/ACT (Oct) Stop by the Career Center for more info

8. Free Math Accuplacer Workshop • Who should take the Accuplacer test and would benefit from this workshop? Seniors going to a community or technical college or Sophomores and Juniors who are planning on taking College in the School courses or doing PSEO next year. • ~Monday and Wednesdays~ Feb. 20-March 25~ 3:00pm-5:00pm at CIHS • An actual Accuplacer test is taken at the end of the sessions • Sign up in Career Center

9. Additional details about college planning, college visits and applying to colleges is available on pages 63-74 of your registration guide. Information about college and career planning can also be found in the Career Center.

10. Math Requirements • Seven or eight Credits of Math are required for students graduating in 2015 or later (This depends on course sequence). Six credits for class of 2014. • Math Teachers will recommend the correct math course for 9th and 10th graders. • Current 11th graders who have successfully completed Algebra 3 or higher may pre-register for next math course under elective requests. • Some 4 year colleges will want to see 4 years of math. Students may want to consider having 4 years of math and science (Careers: Health Care, Engineering, etc.)

11. What to do if you failed Math classes in the past: • Seven or eight credits of math are required for graduation • If you failed a math course, you must retake it in next year’s schedule • If you failed only the “B” portion of a math course, it is recommended you retake both the “A” and “B” portion

12. Science courses by grade: Most students take… • Grade 9 –Integrated Science A & B • * Students must pass Integrated Science A&B – as it is a pre req for future science courses • Grade 10 – Biology A & B or Basic Biology A & B or College Biology A & B (taken in 11th or 12th grade with counselor permission) • Grade 11/12 – Two additional credits of science are required for graduation

13. Science reminder: Basic Biology is not recommended for students planning on attending a two or four year college.

14. Review Science course descriptions • Choose your next year Science classes. Record your choices on the colored pre-registration sheet.

15. What to do if you failed Science classes in the past: • Integrated Science A & B and Biology A & B or Basic Biology A & B or College Biology A & B are required for graduation. • If Integrated Science A and/or Integrated Science B or Biology A and/or B or Basic Biology A and/or B was failed, you must retake it in next year’s schedule

16. Additional 9th Grade Tasks: • Choose your Grade 10 Physical Education class: • If you took PE 9, register for PE 10 • 9th and 10th grade PE are required for graduation. If you failed PE, register for it again in the elective portion of your pre-registration form.

17. Registration Task For Today February 5th • Choose Your Science Classes • 11th grade students can select math courses and list under elective options • 9th grade students should have selected their 10th grade PE course

18. Registration Reminders… • Students should register for 15 credits. • Students wanting to repeat a course must meet with their counselor for prior approval. • Students must register for the “A” and “B” part of courses. • It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that all graduation requirements are met. If in doubt, ask your counselor.
