  3. GETTING STARTED • April 2008 PCSAO convened task force • Two groups: development and review • Development group: ODJFS, IHS, PCSAO, supervisors and screeners from: 3 Major metros 1 Metro 4 Large 1 Medium

  4. REVIEW GROUP • Review group: PCSAO, IHS, ODJFS, supervisors and screeners from: 2 Major metros 2 Metro 2 Medium 3 Medium-small 2 Small

  5. DEVELOPMENT TASK FORCE • Development work group met monthly: April 2008 - April 2009 • Updated PCSAO standards • Developed screening questions • Review work group met 1 – 2 times a month May 2009 – December 2009

  6. STANDARDS • Best practice expectations • May not be immediately attainable by all PCSAs

  7. STANDARDS : 24 Hour Availability A: 24 hour availability B: All after hour calls on CAN and open cases go to on call worker

  8. STANDARDS: Screening Process A: Application of standards to all screeners B: Educating/informing mandated referents C: Qualifications of screeners: same as caseworkers D: Qualifications of screening decision makers: same as screeners plus knowledgeable re: OAC, ORC

  9. STANDARDS: Screening Process E: Qualifications of screening supervisors: same as other supervisors plus same knowledge as screeners and screening decision makers F: Responsibility for making screening decisions: shared with supervisor or designee

  10. STANDARDS: SCREENING PROCESS G: 24 hour access to supervision H: Training of screeners I: Cultural responsiveness: interpreters J: Workload/response time: short • Documenting screening: list of info to gather

SCREENING QUESTIONS • Reviewed screening tools from Children Research Center, 3 states, 5 counties, Action for Child Protection • Reviewed ODJFS Screening Guidelines • Design Challenges • Thorough = long • PCSAs will use it in a variety of ways • Referent may report several types of maltreatment, may not be organized

  12. DESIGN FRAMEWORK • Organized by type of maltreatment • Prompt screeners • Questions, check boxes • Hyperlinks • On PCSAO website: • Word version is modifiable by PCSAs • Considering an Adobe fillable form with text boxes
