The first President • The first President was Boris Yelsin • He was elected president on 1991 • He was then followed by his successor Vladimir Putin in 2000
Vladimir Putin • Seconded president of Russia • Elected in may of 2000 • Vladimir served two terms until stepping down from president on March 2008 • He later would be re elected on march 2012. • He is able to serve two more terms for six years • This begs the question dose Russia really have a democracy or is it a dictatorship in disguise
Constitutional • In 1991 The Russian Federation was the biggest nation to break up from the Soviet Union • Their constitution was establish in 1993 • This formed the Russian Federal Assembly • This also formed the Duma and The Federation Council
The Federation Council • The Federation Council is know as upper house • this house is made up of 168 members who are know as senators. • 84 federal subjects of Russia send two members to the council making a total of 168 member`s
Duma • Is the lower hose in the Russian Federal Assembly. • The Duma has 450 members half proportional representation and the other half single member district. • This house has the most power because it has the power to chooses the prime minster which is like our vice president
Prime Minister • Prime Minister is appointed by the president with the approval of the Duma • The Prime Minister job is to represent the country. • The Prime minister now is Dmitry Medvedev
United Russia • The main political party is called United Russia • Founded in April 2001 result of a merge between several political parties • The United Russia was mainly founded by Vladimir Putin • Party decrease in popularity by 15% • In the previous got a little over 49% of the total votes • They take up 238 seats in the Duma now
Led by Gennady Zyuganov In the previous election won 19% of the votes Has a total of 92 seats in the Duma
Other political parties Other political parties • Reaming seats are taken by the fake opposition party • they have 64 seats in the Duma • The utra-nationalism Liberal Democratic Party of Russia • They have 56 seats in the Duma
