  4. Potential Project Sources • 2014-2019 5-year Highway Improvement Program effective 7/1/14, but project additions generally made for years 2015-2019 • Q:Where do ideas for the recommended projects come from to create a list of funded projects for the next 5 years? • A:from the LCDOT’s comprehensive technical, objective highway asset management tools

  5. Work Types • Bike Path • Bonds • Bridges • Culverts • Drainage • Engineering Support • Enhancements • Facilities • Guardrail • Intersection • Maintenance • Paratransit • Patch • Patrol 1 • Plan • Railroad • Reconstruction • Resurface • Resurfacing, Rehabilitation & Restoration (3R) • Road Districts • Roadway • Signals

  6. Developing the Program

  7. System preservation projects • First Priority • Keep county highway pavements, bridges bikeways, signals and related items in good condition • Project set is developed using: • ARGUS • NBIS

  9. System modernization projects • Second Priority • Reduce delays and increase safety by accommodating short-term traffic growth and the needs of non-motorists • Project set is developed using: • TCAS • 2040 Bicycle Priorities • Non-motorized Policy guidelines • Inter/Intra County Paratransit Transportation Plan

  10. System expansion projects • Third Priority • Provide highway capacity to meet long-term traffic growth needs and provide for economic development • Project set is developed using: • Consensus Priority List • Plan for Using the new Collar County Transportation Empowerment Funds • 2040 Roadway Plan • Average Daily Traffic data • 2040 Transit Plan

  11. Lake County’s2040 Transportation plan • Long range plan to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements to address future transportation needs • In development since 2010 • Network modeled from CMAP regional model with local characteristics • Includes 2040 population and employment projections and corresponding traffic impacts • Proposed improvements prioritized based on forecasted deficiency, prior study, cost and people-jobs potential

  12. 2040 roadway Priorities • Peak period trips estimated to increase by 36% between 2010 and 2040 • 212 miles of roadway Improvements recommended • 7 interchange • 9 intersection • 65 corridor

  13. 2040 non-motorized priorities • Plan recommends an additional 300 miles of non-motorized facilities • Primarily off-street multi-use path for cyclist, pedestrian and other non-motorized use • Many projects connect to Metra and bus routes for improved viability of non-motorized travel • Provide essential non-motorized connections to communities, jobs, parks, schools, forest preserves • Jurisdiction over non-motorized facilities by Lake County DOT, Lake County Forest Preserves, townships, municipalities and institutions

  14. 2040 transit priorities • Variety of transit services are needed to address county needs: • Demand response • Fixed route bus • Commuter rail • Recommendations based on assessed needs with regard to: • Connectivity • Existing facilities and services • Jurisdictional issues • Considered previous plan results (CMAP GOTO2040, Lake County 2020 Transportation Priority Plan)
