Regional Resilience Unit Promoting Collaboration, Learning and Adapting (CLA) for Strong Partnerships and improved Resilience Programming across the Horn of Africa 16June 2016
The Regional Resilience Unit • Clarifies and promotes a common agenda around resilience in the drylands of the Horn of Africa • Tracks progress through the Regional Resilience Framework • Supports the use of mutually reinforcing activities to build resilience capacities to address shocks • Coordinates learningand collaboration across the USAID Missions
RRU Key Partnerships • Identify key partners • Identify needs of key partners • Develop activities to address needs • Communication • Coaching to convert lessons learned into programs • Networking • M&E Regional Resilience Unit
Considerations • The RRU and its key partners need to clarify and drive the vision for resilience programming in the region. We need to facilitate greater collaboration and coordinationfor increased efficiencies. • The process must be participatory and meet the needs of the partners. • Resilience research, assessments, reviews, fact sheets and good practices need to be converted into effective programming. • There is need to develop a solid communication strategy which can convey progress being made in the resilience agenda to assure continued political and financial supportand to build strong partnerships to create greater synergies.
Activities for consideration • Development of a communication/PR Strategy including key messages about progress made in resilience • Engage key partners (Missions, Implementing Partners, Donors, IGAD, UN, Global Alliance, Global Resilience Partnership and others) to identify the support they require (annual reports, communication pieces, and learning opportunities), • Develop and coordinate a structured long-term learning agenda (identification of key learning partners and other learning mechanisms within the region with which to partner), • Support learning and capacity building of IGAD’s Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (the Program Coordination Unit), • Develop clear indicators for measuring success of resilience initiative
