  2. Difference between Imperialism and Colonialism • We believe that Colonialism is a tactic of imperialism. Imperialism itself defines the authority over the other, and colonialism is having a direct control over it, by having their own government placed in the region. There also could be having the authority over the leader of the region, could be interpreted as indirect control, and actually do what they need to do in the region. • One example: it is done under the name of community and it looks like the region has independence, however by maintaining the colony, the control is still maintained.

  3. Colonialism by Spain • Spain to deserve some greetings from the South America, since they are the ones that basically have the South America chance to develop, by introducing European Cultures over them. Their control was the real example of colonialism, since the Spanish leader was living in the region directly controlling every citizens in the region.

  4. Spanish-American War(The Origin of the war) • US wasn’t interested in imperialism until the 1890s, but as Europe expanded their territories, US started to concern that Europe might take control over the world. • US started to show attention to the world, not just to themselves, but they found out that most of the lands were took over by Europe. US had to wait for the adequate reason to attack and achieve some lands. • Their first target was Cuba, because they were struggling for independence against Spain, and under the name of rescue US decided to get involved.

  5. Spanish-American War(The consequences) • Just because of one big explosion on the ship, America assumed that it was done by Spain, and decided to declare war against them. It lasted for 6 months, and it looked like it was an easy win for America, however the reward that they got was enormous. They took over the control of Cuba, and also got Puerto Rico,Guam, and the Samoa Islands.

  6. The American Imperialism(continued) • However, the territories of Cuba and other territories were not the only thing that America wanted. They wanted the canal over the Panama in order for them to have a fast transportation between Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. • When there was a revolution in Panama, US quickly got involved in the revolution, shouting that Panama should be given the independence. After the revolution, US persuaded Panama to sell the canal which is known as the “Panama Canal” these days.

  7. Spain Mostly it was the language and the culture that was spread because of Spain. Early technology was developed because of them, too. America America was very developed by the time that they achieved the power of the Latin America, so they were able to spread the development of technologies along with the political minds of US. Influences of America and Spain on the region
