Team Objectives • Pilot mini-grants for innovative teaching, learning projects, and action research • Research alternative compensation models • Research non-salary and non-monetary compensation approaches
Mini-Grants Pilot • 15 grants awarded in January • Approximately $75,000 in grants • Every school in the district received grants • Receiving appreciative feedback on the opportunities provided
Compensation Discussion Anxiety • Know that the team has no bargaining authority • Changes to current compensation system must be approved by the School Board and the LCEA • Not researching merit pay models • Not connected to career pathways development effort • Recognize constraints of finite resources
Compensation Models Research • Research provides perspective and inspiration for possible improvements • Looking within Oregon and across the country • Can we enhance the current system? • Can a sustainable system be achieved?
Non- Salary Compensation and Recognition • What should be done to retain great educators? • Researching proven approaches to providing recognition beyond the salary. • Non-salary compensation can be opportunities to attend local and national conferences • Non-monetary compensation can be as simple as a private thank you note to a letter of recognition from the School Board
Next Steps • Complete mini-grant pilot and report the results and suggestions for improvement • Report findings on alternative compensations in a revised blue print • Report findings on non-salary compensation and non-monetary recognition
