Review: Sound travels in waves and can travel through solids, liquids, or gases. Sound waves can bounce off objects creating an echo. Smaller things make higher pitched sound and bigger things make lower pitched sound.
Examining Ears What was the same, or different, about the animal ears we observed? Why might the shape and design of an animal's ear be important? What are the parts of a human ear?
Exploring Ears Touch your ear. You are touching your outer ear. What do you think the outer ear does? The outer ear guides sound waves inside your ear to the ear drum.
Testing our Ears I will make sounds, starting very quietly then getting louder. I want you to listen carefully and raise your hand when you can first hear the music.
Ear Size Think about the different animal ears we observed. Is there a way we could hear better? What could we do to change our ear?
Testing 'Big Ears' This time listen to the sounds with your hand cupped behind your ear. Listen until you hear the sound for the first time. Take your hand away, see if you can still hear it. Why does this work?

I want you to find out the three sections of the ear (we already talked about the outer ear). • If you click on the listen button under 'Your Ears' you can listen to the entire article!!
