Objectives The student will • Know how to create layers based on masks • Use Masks to change colors, hues, etc. • Use mask to change picture to black and white • Combine layers to create interesting pictures
Adjusting Colors Using Layers • You can use layers to select portions of a picture and then change colors • Use tools (quick select, etc) to select a portion of the picture • Click and hold the “Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer” button • Select Hue/Saturation
Adjusting Colors Using Layers • A new Hue/Saturation Layer is created • Click on the thumbnail and the adjustment panel is open • Use the slides to change colors Mask – Crtl-Click on mask to edit
Applying a Pattern • Open and select the pattern you wish to use. • Click on Edit > Define Pattern • In the picture you are editing (with the selection made) click and hold the “Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer” button • Choose Pattern • Adjust how the pattern is added with the layers settings and the pattern scale. • Set the layer setting to Multiply
Black and White Layers • You can select the entire or a portion of the picture and convert it to black and white by clicking and holding the “Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer” button and choosing Black and White.
Adding a Gradient • You can blend the black and white image into the color image by adding a gradient • Just like we did to the shapes the other day • Click on the layer mask • Click on the gradient tool • Sweep the direction you want the gradient to go
Rest of Today • Take the picture ps0906 • Select the tie and add an Hue/Saturation layer. Change the color of the tie to purple. • Select the rest of the image • Hold the Ctrl key and click on the mask for the tie and then Select > Inverse • Change the rest of the image to black and white.
