  1. Stewartville Community Education Encourage the love of learning!

  2. What is Community Education? Process that connects schools, communities, and families to provide enriching environments for all. “Any time leaders connect the school and the community they are educating the community.” (Principal Leadership, 2007)

  3. History of Community Education • Frank J. Manley and Charles Stewart Mott introduced the “lighted schoolhouse” concept in Flint, Michigan during the 1930s. • The “lighted schoolhouses” were open in the late afternoons, evenings, weekends and summers for a series of educational, social, health and recreational programs for all ages. • “Lighted schoolhouse” concept hit Minnesota in 1969 and is now known as Community Education. Programming exists in 342 districts in Minnesota.

  4. Stewartville Community Education Philosophy • Stewartville Community Education (CE) shall provide opportunities for lifelong learning to all citizens of School District 534. These opportunities shall be designed to meet the current needs of the community and thus reflect the changing society. CE will promote utilization of the building and facilities to provide enriching programs. CE shall also work to maximize all available local resources through cooperation and coordination of activities with other agencies and local organizations.

  5. Program Progression • Stewartville CE began serving the needs of the community in 1980 by offering refresher shorthand classes. • 32 years later, CE is offering 60+ educational and recreational opportunities.

  6. Early Childhood Family Education • In 1984, Early Childhood offered 3 classes for 2 and 3 year olds. • Today, we offer 3 Parent/Child (ECFE) classes and 7 School Readiness classes serving 160 preschool age children. • Sponsor special event nights for all families.

  7. SACC- Tiger Time • Tiger Time is a before and after school program for school age students from preschool to 5th grade. • Currently providing daycare and programming for 350 kids. • The demand for enrichment daycare is on the rise • Locations: Central, Bonner & Grace E Free Church

  8. CE offers a large selection of youth programming from enrichment to recreational. These programs provide a safe haven for all youth. Young Artists Zumbatomic Geocaching Gymnastics Volleyball Prairie Fire Children’s Theater Camp Invention Learn to Ski Trips Cooking/Sewing Youth Programming

Adult programming provides an avenue for individuals to learn, have fun, exercise, live healthier, develop friendships and interact with others Financial classes Adult Volleyball League Yoga & Tai Chi Chih AARP classes Red Cross CPR Baking and Craft classes Computer classes Mystery Trips Adult Programming

  10. Stewartville Community Theatre began it’s adventure in 1996. Consists of youth and adults from the local area. Produce a comedy in March and a musical in August each year. Brigadoon Fiddler on the Roof Beauty and the Beast Sound of Music Camelot Damn Yankees Young Frankenstein Annie Get Your Gun Stewartville Community Theatre
