  2. Sumeria and it’s people There are many Sumerian archeological sites The people were very intelligent, they created some of the world’s first irrigation systems, sail boats, and wheeled vehicles Sumerians created a writing called cuneiform They wrote letters, laws, riddles and records They made the cuneiform writing by scratching a clay tablet with a reed pen They wrote many symbols in the cuneiform tablet Not many children went to school in Sumer, but the ones who did became scribes Scribes wrote everything, from laws, to legends, to songs (This is the cuneiform tablet)

  3. Assyria • Exactly 400 miles from Sumer, Asher stood tall • Asher, or Assyria was north of Sumer, and they defended themselves by setting up an army and they took over most of Mesopotamia • Assyria had its own language and its own gods. • They also used cuneiform • They were mostly farmers so they took care of crops and dairy cattle • The largest cities they had were Asher and Nineveh

  4. Conclusion In Conclusion, Mesopotamia has many empires, some successful, some not so successful. There is Sumeria, with people who created some of the world’s first inventions. They wrote in Cuneiform, which is a special type of writing that involves many symbols. Also, there is Assyria, a very independent empire that was very powerful and took over most of Mesopotamia. Although they were very independent, they did share a Cuneiform tradition with Sumeria. And lastly, there is Babylonia, whose king, Hammurabi led his empire to be very powerful and wealthy. Overall, Mesopotamia had many powerful empires.

  5. Babylonia • Babylon started to reunite the city-states of Sumer • Babylonia’s king, Hammurabi, built dams across the Euphrates river • City-states that were less powerful then him, and who did not cooperate had to face the consequences • By 1750 B.C., he had Mesopotamia under his control • Since trade goods passed through Babylonia from the Fertile Crescent, they became even more powerful • Scientists found a tablet from 4,000 years ago telling about the different laws Hammurabi had, this was called The Code of Hammurabi (The Code of Hammurabi)
