The Sumerian Empire • One of the worlds first civilizations formed in the southern part of Mesopotamia. • In each city state the en ruled as the king. • They created the system called cuneiform, or wedged shaped writing. • People belonged to social classes, or groups of same level of importance.
The Akkadian Empire • They had a king named Sargon the Great from 2350 B.C to 2294 B.C. • After he died, the empire lasted more than 200 years. • His son and grandson, Naram-Sin, ruled over the Akkadian empire after he died. • He killed his king and took over all of Sumer.
The Babylonian Empire • They had to follow a code called the Code of Hammurabi. • The code was made he help maintain the empire and establish laws. • For example, if a low class person broke a higher class person’s arm, he shall die. • If a low class person is hurt by a high class person he shall receive something good. • If some one harms a person and they are the same class, he shall be harmed by him.
The Kassites and the Hittites • Kassites tried to conquer the Babylonian Empire for many years. • Hittites robbed the Babylonians and left them defenseless. • The Kassites took advantage of the Babylonian’s loss and took over the Babylonians. • The Hittites used chariots to rob the Babylonian Empire of their riches.
Assyrian Empire • The People of Assur learned warfare, or skill in war, from the Hittites. • The Assyrian King, Sennacherib, had conquered 40 cities. • He named the capital of the Assyrian Empire, Nineveh. • In 612 B.C the Medes attacked Nineveh and killed the king of Assyria.
Neo Babylonian Empire • When the Assyrians were defeated, they were the center of Mesopotamia, again. • They were they New Babylonian Empire (Neo Babylonian Empire). • The capital was where the Neo Babylonian Empire began. • King Nebuchadnezzar built a ziggurat which is now called the Tower of Babel.
What I learned In this chapter I learned about the six empires and the Kassites and Hittites of Mesopotamia and how they did things. I learned about the laws, warfare, weapons, and vehicles that they used. I also l learned about kings like Sargon, Hammurabi, Nebuchadnezzar, and Sennacherib. I learned about the capitals such as Ninevehand Akkad. Finally, about codes such as the Code of Hammurabi, which was fair and unfair.
