The Presentation • You may choose either L1 or TL for your PPT and for your presentation • Choose a cultural experience from a TL country that you have visited • Describe the experience using the framework of the 3 Ps: practices, products, and perspectives
The Presentation • 15-20 minute presentation • Presentation in the Target Language • Describe what you learned about the 3 Ps from the cultural experience you described in your essay
The Presentation • Describe how the experience transformed the way you view yourself • Describe how the experience transformed your cultural perspectives • Outline your plan for continuing growth of the TL and target culture
The Three Ps • Practices: the patterns of behavior accepted by a society; they represent knowledge of “what to do when and where (how individuals address each other, the social pecking order, the use of space, gestures, mealtime etiquette)
The Three Ps Products: things created by members of the culture, both tangible (a house, a painting, an eating utensil, a piece of literature) and intangible (a system of education, a ritual, an oral tale, a dance)
The Three Ps • Perspectives: traditional ideas, attitudes, meanings, and values of members of that society (social hierarchy). Note that some perspectives have been lost even though there may be practices and products reflected of that former perspective.

Kluckhohn Values Orientation Method Five basic concerns common to all human beings • What is a person’s assessment of innate human nature (perception of self and others)? • What is a person’s relation to nature (world view)? • What is a person’s temporal focus of life (temporal orientation)?

Tips for the PPT • Use a light background • Use dark font, 24 pt at least • Limit your text on each slide (bullet pts are fine) • Rehearse before you present • Allow time for questions • Organize with an intro, body, and conclusion
