(Hint – it was dealing with the United States and France) (pages 209-210) • Britain banned direct American voyages between the French West Indies and France; so, the United States exported from French West Indies to America, then reexport back from United States to France
3. List the two reasons why Britain hated the “reexport trade.” (page 210) • 1st Reason: it helped the French economy which sustained Napoleon’s army • 2nd Reason: the mew trade helped the United States become Britain’s greatest commercial competitor.

#6 CONTINUED • The embargo didn’t work because it bankrupted American merchants, American sailors out of work, and hurt farmers, who could no longer export their crops. • Britain found other markets in South America so the embargo didn’t achieve its goal.
